Red Plastic Poppies

It isn't Memorial Day, but my run-in with some plastic poppies likely has to do with today marking the time that the United States entered World War I one hundred years ago. American Meadows has a nice write up on the 'American Legion' or 'Flanders' Poppy that these plastic flowers are modeled after. I guess it is somewhat interesting that this species of poppy has come to be a reminder of those lost in war or as a way to raise money for veterans while yet another species of Poppy is associated with some other wars, like the Opium Wars or the "War on Drugs".
