Katsura in Early Spring

There is a Katsura that's hard to ignore at Hofstra, even if you know nothing about this species. It's just such a big and sprawling, multi-stemmed mammoth that it commands your attention. This week it looks to me like this Katsura is beginning to bloom as up high in the canopy there are hints of red catching the sunlight. I'm starting to think that this Katsura at Hofstra might be female and the weeping cultivar below from the same time of year ( give or take a week) at Brooklyn Botanic is male.  I might need some binocular though if I really want to see what's going on.
